Commencing in 2006 with 8 cottages initially, these beautifully designed and appointed units meet all government housing specifications and are available to residents who can demonstrate a low-income status. Incredibly popular, these units have been highly sought after by residents seeking our unique environment and the ability to be strongly connected to their local community.
A further 8 units were completed and fully occupied in June 2020. Which takes the total site to 16 rental units and 3 Lease for Life units. With the need for affordable housing increasing in WA the Brunswick River Cottages Committee, in partnership with the Shire of Harvey and funding from the South West Development Commission. A Business Case for stage 3 development consisting of a further 12 rental units, a communal area and all road infrastructure for future rentals was completed. The project is now shovel ready and waiting on Government funds to see this project come to life and provide much needed affordable, independent living for seniors.

Landscaped common areas. Residents are responsible for maintenance of their front and rear gardens. The front garden is landscaped by our building team, however you may wish to design and landscape your own rear garden.

Leases are offered on the basis of a Social Housing Residential Tenancy Agreement (Form 1AB Residential Tenancies Act 1987 Section 27A).
Rental charged is calculated by reference to a resident’s income, payable fortnightly in advance and a security bond of 4 weeks’ rent is required upon signing the lease agreement. A pet bond not exceeding $260 may also be required if a pet is permitted to be kept.
Rent and Bond will be adjusted on the following terms and conditions:
The tenant must provide 6 monthly income statements (to reflect Centrelink payment increases, usually effective from 20th March and 20th September each year). The lessor will send a letter requesting the statements at the appropriate time.
The lessor will calculate the tenant’s rent deductions based on the income statements.
This will be followed by a letter from the lessor to the tenant advising of the adjusted rent deduction and the date by which the adjusted rent needs to actioned.
The tenant will be advised by the lessor of the annual bond adjustment calculated to equal the value of 4 weeks’ rent.
The tenant is to pay the difference of the adjusted bond within the required time specified in the letter sent by the lessor.
